چکیده
Wave energy has a large global resource and thus great potential to contribute low-carbon systems. This study quantifies the environmental impacts of 10MW array 28 point-absorber wave converters, by means process-based life cycle assessment (LCA). Midpoint Cumulative Energy Demand LCA results are presented over 19 impact categories, representing encompassing human health, ecosystems availability. Three scenarios undertaken represent use phase array, identified as particularly uncertain input, with very little long-term operation arrays available validate assumptions. The resultant warming ranges from 25.1- 46.0 gCO2e/kWh 95% confidence interval, 23-43 times lower than conventional fossil fuel electricity generation. Wave Energy Assessment along Sicilian Coastline, Based on DEIM Point Absorber
The use of renewable energy sources is one of the most relevant goals to be achieved in order to match the climate protection targets. As a case study, the paper shows the current electrical energy production by sources in the Sicilian context. Among the renewable energy sources, the paper investigates the wave energy potential along the Sicilian coasts, because of the favorable climate around ...
متن کاملPs Frog: a Point-absorber Wave Energy Converter Working in a Pitch/surge Mode
In studies of wave energy, notably those made under contract to the U.K. Department of Energy, capital costs have generally been _found too high to compete with other sources It has been shown elsewhere (1) that the large structural element in these costs can be avoided by using point-absorbers reacting against an internal moving mass. This early proposal (2) suffers from the disadvantage that ...
متن کاملOn the Short-term Uncertainty in Performance of a Point Absorber Wave Energy Converter
INTRODUCTION Of interest, in this study, is the quantification of uncertainty in the performance of a two-body wave point absorber (Reference Model 3 or RM3), which serves as a wave energy converter (WEC). We demonstrate how simulation tools may be used to establish short-term relationships between any performance parameter of the WEC device and wave height in individual sea states. We demonstr...
متن کاملDifferent Model Predictive Control Approaches for Controlling Point Absorber Wave Energy Converters
Ocean wave energy is a promising renewable energy source that can be converted into useful electrical energy using wave energy converters (WECs). In order for WECs to become a commercially viable alternative to established methods of energy generation, operating the WEC in an optimal fashion is a key task. Thus, model predictive control (MPC) is an encouraging control method that exploits the e...
متن کاملEnergy Life‐cycle Assessment of Soybean Biodiesel Revisited
The first comprehensive life‐cycle assessment (LCA) for soybean biodiesel produced in the U.S. was completed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in 1998, and the energy inventory for this analysis was updated in 2009 using 2002 data. The continual adoption of new technologies in farming, soybean processing, and for biodiesel conversion affects the life‐cycle energy use over time,...
